Managing restrooms in high traffic areas is challenging due to the constant wear and tear, high usage rates, and the need to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards. These spaces require frequent cleaning, timely maintenance, and efficient monitoring to ensure a positive user experience. Traditional methods often fall short in addressing these demands, leading to inefficiencies and dissatisfaction among users.
In collaboration with JLL, Milesight's trusted partner, UnaBiz was appointed to improve the user experience by deploying a smart restroom system that provides real-time monitoring of key hygiene parameters. The project aimed to create a more efficient and cleaner environment for mall visitors, using Internet of Things (IoT) technology for proactive maintenance and monitoring. The overall outcome brought improved sanitation and hygiene to 15 heartland mall locations across Singapore.

VS350 Passage People Counter
These devices were strategically installed at key points to accurately count footfall to the washrooms. Milesight's VS350 (UBV350) is equipped with dual PIR sensors that allows accurate bi-directional counting, while ensuring anonymous detection. This data helped facilities management teams optimize cleaning schedules and resource allocation based on actual usage patterns.
GS301 Bathroom Odor Detector
Milesight's GS301 (UBG301) were deployed to detect and measure odor concentration levels, like ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and played a crucial role in maintaining hygiene standards. The sensor also provides temperature and humidity data to ensure user comfort. By providing real-time data, the system enabled prompt responses to unpleasant conditions, ensuring a more optimal experience for users.
UG65 Indoor LoRaWAN® Gateway
As the backbone of the IoT network, Milesight's UG65 Indoor LoRaWAN® gateway facilitated secure, long-range data transmission from the installed sensors to the central dashboard. Its robust connectivity ensured that data from all devices was reliably collected and analyzed, enabling proactive decision-making. In addition, the gateway's multiple backhaul connectivity options also allow fast integration into various scenarios.
Before full deployment, the system underwent rigorous testing and commissioning to ensure all components functioned as intended. This phase involved validating the accuracy of the sensors, testing the reliability of the network, and ensuring seamless integration with the central monitoring platform. The thorough testing process guaranteed that the system delivered consistent, reliable data for ongoing monitoring and analysis, enabling facilities management teams to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. By combining advanced hardware with a robust network infrastructure, UnaBiz created a smart restroom system that not only addressed the challenges of high-traffic areas but also set a new benchmark for sanitation and user experience in public spaces.
